According to Section 3310, a Site Safety Manager or Site Safety Coordinator must be assigned and present during the construction or demolition of a major building. Per Section 3310.5, a certified Site Safety Coordinator may be appointed instead of a Site Safety Manager for constructing, expanding (vertically or horizontally), or fully or partially demolishing a major building, if the building:

• Is under 15 stories or 200 feet in height, and
• Has a footprint of 100,000 square feet or less.

Currently, a major building is defined as one that is 10 stories/125 feet or taller or has a footprint of 100,000 square feet or more. However, starting December 11, 2024, the code will change, redefining a major building as a structure that is 7 stories/75 feet or taller. This reclassification impacts site safety requirements, so it is essential for building owners to assess whether their properties will now fall under the "major" category.
